Anthony Browne MP, Member of Parliament for South Cambridgeshire, has recently visited 1000 Discovery Drive, the latest stage of development at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC).

Hosted by Prologis UK, a leading owner and developer of life sciences real estate and developer of the Campus expansion land, and representatives from the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, the MP was provided with an update on construction progress and information on a new CBC Economic Report.

At the time of Mr Browne’s visit, construction of 1000 Discovery Drive had already reached first floor level.  The building is being speculatively developed by Prologis and will provide 103,000 sq. ft. of new multi-let laboratory and office space, over five storeys. It is specifically targeted at growing biotech and life sciences businesses and will offer the flexibility to meet start-up, spin-out and scale-up requirements for healthcare research companies.  The building is scheduled to be completed in Q4 2023 and there is already strong interest.

Anthony Browne, MP for South Cambridgeshire, said: “The Cambridge Biomedical Campus is one of the most important developments in our region and continues to ensure that Cambridge and the surrounding area is at the forefront of innovation in the fields of healthcare and life sciences.  In a market with an acute undersupply of laboratory space, 1000 Discovery Drive is a timely addition. The occupiers it will provide a home to will bring even more benefits to the local economy and jobs market.”

The CBC Economic Report, produced by Centre for Economics & Business Research (Cebr), an independent consultancy, was launched in Summer 2022.  For the first time, the report calculates the economic, health and research benefits of CBC to the local and national economies. It finds that CBC has supported an aggregate economic footprint of £2.2 billion Gross Value Added to the economy and is the largest employment site in Cambridge, as well as supporting over 15,000 additional roles across regional supply chains and local businesses.
