November is National Career Development Month, a topic that we at Prologis are committed to supporting, whether that’s through our sponsorship of Generation Logistics, our own Prologis Warehouse and Logistics Training Programme or our annual Prologis Internship scheme.

We’re always on the lookout for ways that we can attract, train, and retain new talent to the ever-evolving logistics property sector. That’s why last week, I hit the road with the Prologis team to promote our internship opportunities to students from Nottingham Trent University (NTU) at their Careers Fair.

Four years on from my time as at NTU, it was fun to re-familiarise myself with some local haunts and catch up with lecturers. The School of Architecture, Design and Built Environment is internationally recognised for excellence in teaching and research and it’s safe to say that I enjoyed my own time there.

The fair was for students of NTU’s Built Environment courses, where they were able to hear from this year’s interns – Tom and Ellie – who also both attend NTU. Here’s a recent blog interview with our previous interns if you’re interested in what they got up to.

One noticeable difference between my time at NTU and today was student’s interest in the industrial and logistics sector. From my perspective, the rise in ecommerce and supply chain challenges in the past few years has highlighted the positive impact the sector has on society and is helping attract and retain the next generation of talent.

Being able to speak from the other side of the table was an opportunity to share some of the leaps and bounds Prologis is making with sustainability and ESG. Speaking to a generation of younger people, these are topics that are resonating strongly, and are helping us make a difference to our employees, customers, and communities.

The very next day, a group of second-year students from NTU’s Built Environment school attended a site visit at RFI DIRFT for a site trip. Whilst the timing was purely coincidental, it was great to see a few familiar faces from the Careers Fair at the site visit.

The visit was led by Volker Fitzpatrick, the main contractor on DC6 and DC7 at DIRFT. Students were given a tour of the site, where they were told about site considerations, construction methods and “big-box” engineering principles. The trip concluded with a detailed sustainability certification exercise which certainly highlighted the significant efforts undertaken to achieve our carbon reduction targets.

Underneath it all, the big builds and million-pound deals, Prologis is a company that cares for its people, starting from day one.

The bespoke PWLTP scheme has not only helped deliver over £6million in social value to the Northamptonshire and wider SEMLEP area through skill training and job creation but has changed the lives of so many people along the way. Rob Poole

Associate, Development Management

Rob is an Associate in the UK Development Management Team and joined Prologis in March 2022. As part of his degree in Quantity Surveying & Commercial Management, Rob completed a year in industry with Prologis in 2019 - 2020. Following the completion of his degree and a short time working for Ridge and Partners LLP in Birmingham, Rob joined the Development Management team in the UK full time.

Rob's role involves working in and supporting the Development Management Team as they expand into new business directions whilst working to become a fully chartered RICS Project Manager.
