It’s a wrap: our dock doors of giving initiative returned over £244,000 to charitable causes across Europe
2020 was a difficult year for so many people: it was also a challenging year for charities and local community groups who saw donations drop as demand for their services increased. At Prologis we have a long history of giving back to the communities close to our Prologis parks and to the charities close to our employees’ hearts. That’s why, we decided to extend our annual UK-based ‘dock doors of Christmas campaign, to include our 19 offices across Europe, helping us give back to those charities and community groups hardest hit by the pandemic.
Renamed ‘the dock doors of giving’, 12 Prologis offices across Europe took part in a month-long campaign of giving back during December and returned over €275,000 (£244,000) to 91 charities across Europe. The amount raised was £66,000 (€75,000) greater than our initial fundraising target of £178,000 (€200,000) and was boosted by the efforts of our wonderful employees and supply chain.
Beneficiaries of the campaign in the UK included: Acorns Children’s Hospice, National Aids Trust, Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid and London City Mission to name but a few. Financial donations for charities and good causes in the UK ranged from £250 to £5000. In addition, we also donated food, toys and other items including hand sanitiser and much needed PPE equipment to food banks and community groups struggling to cope with increased demand.
On the 31st December, the ‘dock doors of giving’ campaign culminated with a donation from The Prologis Foundation to five charities across Europe. In the UK, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity will receive an £18,000 donation to help it improve the experience and outcomes of its young patients and their parents and cope with the added difficulties presented by Covid-19. All the charities chosen were voted for by Prologis employees.
Paul Weston, Regional Head, Prologis UK, said: “We knew from talking to charities and community groups that COVID-19 had left many struggling to cope with a decrease in donations and an increase in demand for their services. As a company that strives to be a force for good in the communities we serve, we wanted to give something back.
“I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our amazing employees and supply chain partners who came together to give money, time and donations of much needed food and equipment to help those less fortunate. I also know that we are continuing to support many of these charities as the pressure from Coivid-19 continues to put them under increased strain.”
Saranne Moreno, Head of Corporate Strategic Partnerships, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity said: “This donation from the Prologis Foundation means the world to our children and families.
“Covid-19 has meant adjustments have had to be made to hospital life for our young patients and their families. For example, visiting restrictions are in place, so siblings are unable to visit, plus communal play rooms have had to close. This makes the one-to-one support offered by our play team on the wards, to distract children through sensory and therapeutic play, all the more important. We’re so grateful to everyone at Prologis for their support, and for choosing Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity to benefit from this initiative.”
