I’m also lucky to work for a company that supports charitable initiatives put forward by employees Kathryn Bird, Prologis UK

It’s often said that charity begins at home, but for Kathryn Bird, a Director in the legal department at Prologis UK, charity begins at work and school and has seen her take on three charity challenges during October alone.

“I’m a very active person by nature”, Kathryn explains. “Two years ago, together with a group of mums from my children’s school, I climbed Snowdon to raise money for Cancer Research and Marie Curie Hospice after a friend lost her husband to the disease. Following this challenge, we’ve gone on to tackle Scarfell Pike, Ben Nevis and have been joined by our partners on a number of long distance walks, runs and cycle rides for charity”.

Over the past two years Kathryn and a group of parents from her children’s school have raised more than £40,000 for a number of charities, including Cancer Research, Marie Curie Hospice, LoveBrum and the Midlands Hearing Implant Programme (MHIP) at Birmingham Children’s Hospital – a charity close to Kathryn’s heart.

“I recently completed Shine London (a night walk marathon) with my friend Hannah to raise money for MHIP”, Kathryn continues. “Hannah is the Principal speech and language therapist at MHIP and, for someone who was predicted never to walk as a child, Hannah has now climbed three mountains, cycled coast to coast and completed Shine London despite enduring countless operations as a child”.

During September, Kathryn took part in the Prologis 100 Cycle ride raising money for Land Aid and Trinity Specialist College. In October she also completed Shine London, cycled from Knowle (in the West Midlands) to London and completed the Birmingham half marathon with four colleagues from Prologis to raise money for LoveBrum – a charity that supports hidden gem projects across Birmingham.

So just where does Kathryn find the time and energy?

“I love taking on a new challenge and combining that with the ability to raise much needed funds for charity”, Kathryn explains. “I’m also lucky to work for a company that supports charitable initiatives put forward by employees”. Prologis recently donated £300 to my chosen charity, MHIP, and employees at Prologis are given paid leave which they can use to undertake valuable charitable work”.
