Community is important to us at Prologis UK. That’s why our dedicated in-house Property Management Team work hard to build long-lasting relationships with the communities close to our network of Prologis Parks.
With the 100th anniversary of the end of the World War I approaching on 11th November 2018, we wanted to help one community, close to Prologis Park Midpoint, create a lasting tribute to local people who gave their lives in defence of their country.
The Water Orton Memorial Project started life in April 2016, when a project team, including representatives from the two churches, the Royal British Legion, a local historian, the Borough and County Council and a group of residents from Water Orton, North Warwickshire, came together to fundraise for a War Memorial for the village.
Chaired by Judy Macdonald, the team needed to raise £25,000 to erect the memorial: it was a tall order but, with the help of local residents, a series of fundraising events and assistance from local companies, work to create the memorial on a piece of land between Coleshill Road and Watton Lane began back in July.
“We wanted to help the villagers commemorate local people who had given up their lives to defend the freedom of others,” Wayne Porter, UK Customer Solutions, Prologis UK explains. “Together with our trusted partner, Level Best Flooring, we were able to create the foundations on which the War Memorial will sit and I’m proud that we were able to play a part in something that will serve as a reminder for future generations about the sacrifice of others.”
Wayne recently attended a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of foundation works for the War Memorial – which will be completed in time for a dedication ceremony on October 13th and a Remembrance Day Parade on Sunday November 11th.
