We feel passionately that, as a property company, we should play our part in reducing average lifetime carbon in our buildings to bring the benefits of sustainability to our customers, the local community and beyond

There was great excitement at DSV’s new distribution centre on Prologis Park Sideway recently when company representatives were presented with The Planet Mark™ certificate for their building.

The distribution centre, a major hub for the global transport and logistics company, had its whole-life carbon impact officially certified by The Planet MarkTM,, a sustainability certification recognising new developments that go beyond compliance, as part of a long-standing commitment to sustainable development by Prologis UK. Working with the environmental charity Cool Earth, Prologis also mitigated 110% of the carbon involved in the construction of the buildings on Prologis Park Sideway by protecting 169 acres of rainforest in Ashaninka, Peru.

“Sustainable development is something we gift to every owner or occupier of a Prologis building in the UK, allowing them to start their own sustainability journey,” said Simon Cox, Head of Sustainability at Prologis UK.

“We feel passionately that, as a property company, we should play our part in reducing average lifetime carbon in our buildings to bring the benefits of sustainability to our customers, the local community and beyond. This legacy of sustainable development is something we gift to every owner or occupier of a Prologis building in the UK, allowing them to start their own sustainability journey.”

It’s a journey that DSV has chosen to continue by signing-up its distribution centre on Prologis Park Sideway to The Planet Mark™ certification programme for the next 3 years. The goal is to continue the sustainability initiative provided by Prologis UK and build on the strong environmental foundations it provides.

This will include ongoing employee engagement to reduce carbon, energy, water and waste and continuing support for those schools that benefited from community engagement through The Planet Mark™ – which funds education officers from the Eden Project, a founding partner of the sustainability certification programme, to go into local schools close to our developments and talk to the children about sustainability and how they can play their part in protecting the planet.

“DSV is the first logistics company to achieve The Planet Mark™ for one of its buildings,” said Steve Malkin, Founder and CEO of The Planet Mark™. “Their ongoing commitment to the certification and sustainability at their new distribution centre at Sideway DC3 continues the great work of Prologis UK in designing and delivering an outstanding, energy efficient, low carbon building.”

Paul Norton, general Manager at DSV is delighted to be heading-up the company’s sustainability programme at Prologis Park Sideway:  “DSV is committed to be continuing the sustainability journey at its Stoke on Trent facility in accordance to The Planet MarkTM conditions,” he said. “As a global logistics provider, we felt it was important to keep the initiative running at the facility and deliver a positive impact for both the environment and the local community. As an environmentally conscientious company we look forward to working closely with The Planet Mark™ team to ensure the site complies and improves year upon year.”

The Planet Mark™ was founded in 2013 in partnership with the Eden Project (an educational charity and an award-winning international visitor destination and centre for education in sustainability and innovation).

It is awarded to businesses, properties, new developments and projects that are committed to reducing their carbon emissions.
